On the Vine when you see real food items, which is not very often, you have to order quickly, no dilly dallying, or you will find that the item is gone. So I had already pressed the button before I noticed that the flavor I had ordered was the Sichuan and that it was supposed to have, according to the description, some considerable heat. I felt pretty disappointed, because I cannot tolerate almost any heat at all, and I thought I wouldn't be able to eat it.
But I can eat it! I tentatively nibbled a small piece, expecting to burst into flames at any moment and keeping some dairy close at hand, and found that it was delicious, and yes, afterwards there is some heat, but it is pretty moderate. Now I know that sort of thing is all relative, but I am such a wimp in that department, if I can tolerate the heat, probably just about anybody can.
I also really like the texture. It has a jerky like texture, just chewy enough to feel satisfying, but it's just a tad softer and definitely easier to chew than real meat jerky.
The only reason I'm taking off a star is because I think the price is a bit exorbitant. $10 for that little bag! Perhaps I'm just getting old. I seem to find myself thinking that about a lot of things lately. My father was the same way. Am I turning into my father? I suppose that's a whole other can of (vegetarian) worms.
If you can live with the price, and especially if you are vegetarian, which means that you are probably always looking for new and interesting vegetarian alternatives, I would say go for it!
